MEP Andrius Kubilius: Keeping Saakashvili imprisoned is bad for everyone, including the ruling Georgian Dream, but most of all for the European dream of the Georgian people

In an exclusive comment with Europe Time MEP (EPP, Lithuania), Co-President of the Euronest PA Andrius Kubilius said that the government should allow Saakashvili to be treated in a civilian hospital.

„I also plead with Mr. Saakashvili to discontinue his hunger strike, which to my knowledge affects his health heavily. Keeping Mr. Saakashvili imprisoned in Georgia is bad for everyone, including the ruling Georgian Dream, but most of all for the European dream of the Georgian people. For some time now, this dream and the progress achieved on this road are being demolished by national political divisions. This is painful to watch for friends of Georgia, of whom you have many in Europe and in the USA.

There is still a way out through dialogue and discussion. The government must realize the pro-European mandate given to them by the people. The opposition must also make a deep revision of their political vision and strategy. The goal for all responsible politicians must be to keep Georgia on its European path, as this is the only way for Georgia to develop in a stable, prosperous, and democratic way and as this is what the Georgian people want. Following the latest developments, it now becomes a question of a European future for the Georgian people“, - MEP Andrius Kubilius said.
