The European Union supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia, as recognised by international law

In an exclusive comment with Europe Time Peter Stano, EU Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy says the European Union supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia, as recognised by international law.

„With regard to the so-called presidential elections that took place in the Georgian breakaway region of South Ossetia on 10 April and 8 May, we recall that the European Union does not recognise the constitutional and legal framework in which they took place. The EU will continue to pursue its policy of non-recognition and engagement, including through the EU Special Representative and the EU Monitoring Mission“, - Peter Stano said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia condemns the second round of the so-called presidential elections conducted by Russia in the occupied Tskhinvali region on May 8. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the international community to properly assess and effectively respond to another further illegal action against Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
